At the Danish Technological Institute, <em>motion capture<\/em> technology can now provide companies with a thorough data basis for developing and validating their robotic technologies or products.<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine a mobile robot that has to brake to avoid colliding with people, or a drone that has to autonomously dock to its charging station.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What these scenarios have in common is the need for extremely accurate motion data<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is where <em>motion capture technology<\/em> shows its strength.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; In robotic automation, it&#8217;s a basic condition: Something is moving &#8211; and we must be able to measure it extremely accurately if we want to succeed with new technology,&#8221; says Kasper Camillus Jeppesen, Technical Manager at the Danish Technological Institute.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is motion capture?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Motion capture is a series of specialized cameras that use infrared light to track small, reflective markers mounted on robots, people or other objects.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result is millimeter-precise 3D data on both position and rotation, even when moving at lightning speed.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This method makes it possible to collect <em>ground truth data<\/em> &#8211; the robust reference measurement that is above the level of the sensors or systems being developed and tested.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; We can track everything from the robotic arm that picks up micro items to the drone that will land automatically. Without accurate data, you don&#8217;t know if your technology is performing as you think, says Kasper Camillus Jeppesen.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use throughout the product lifecycle<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Danish Technological Institute uses motion capture across product development for everything from research and early prototyping to final validation and certification.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Whether you&#8217;re a startup, established manufacturer or researcher, you need to compare your own measurements against something better and more accurate. Even down to analyzing human movements, he says.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Precision in your half of the field<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teknologisk.dk\/ydelser\/motion-capture-maal-og-analyser-robotbevaegelser-med-praecise-data\/47282\">Danish Technological Institute offers motion capture measurements<\/a> both in the institute&#8217;s robot halls and at companies.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system is mobile and can be set up both indoors and outdoors.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; There are almost no limitations &#8211; as long as we can mount the markers.
